The Ashland Chamber of Commerce tells you this: “The eight-block Main Street business district, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is the background for a fascinating walk through Ashland’s history as seen through the eyes of Ashland’s mural artists Kelly Meredith and Susan Prentice Martinsen.” I have walked the tour. It is a delightful. Doing this gives you a first-hand view of history., the “good old days” as we often say. I’ll show some photos of what you’ll see, hopefully just enough to whet your appetite.
Ashland is the center of Chequamegon Bay, an inlet of Lake Superior. Lake Superior in itself is a fantastic lake to view. Lake Superior is the largest freshwater lake in the world by surface area[a] and the third-largest by volume, holding 10% of the world's surface fresh water. Several state parks are near Ashland: Amnicom and Pattison. The Bayfield Peninsula is to the north, offering a wonderful ride along the Chequamegon Bay and to the city of Bayfield, named by Conde Nast as one of “The 23 Best Places to Go in the U.S. in 2023.”
