Wisconsin Towns and Places

Fountain City

Fountain City is fascinating. It is old, first inhabited as Holmes Landing in 1839. It is small, less than 1,000 residents. And it has had better days economically I suppose. But it is nestled between the bluffs along the Mississippi River and the river itself. Residents have gone to great lengths to build their homes up in the bluffs. And the main street is working hard to build back its economy. The 550-foot Eagle Bluff is nearby, as is Seven Hawks Vineyard. There is an air about the town, its layout, and its river that absorbed me. Try it.  a hoot!
