La Pointe
The Town of La Pointe is located on Madeline Island, a 20 minute ferry ride from Bayfield in Ashland County. Madeline Island is the only inhabited island of the Apostle Islands in this neighborhood of Wisconsin.
The population if the island ranges from 300 in winter to 1,500 in the summer. While the island is a tourist area in the summer, many residents return to it in the summer as well
Transportation to and from the mainland is provided by The Madeline Island Ferry Line from spring through freeze-up. Windsleds Inc., takes residents and visitors across the ice on a windsled prior to an ice road opening.
It was quiet day in mid-September when I visited. I drove around the island and walked the boardwalk in Big Bay State Park, a neat experience.
