Llamas and horses, or are they Alpacas!
Llamas and the horses. While riding through an area close to Whitehall, I spotted this neat barn. What was even more neat was there were several llamas and a horse in the barn environs. Both llama and their brothers, alpaca are prevalent through the state. And might the ones shown here be Alpacas?

Broken Saddle Ranch, in NW Wisconsin!
No, I did not photograph this in Arizona or New Mexico! This is the Broken Saddle Ranch on CH B not too far north of Hwy 10. I believe it is in the town of Drammen. It pops up out of nowhere! It has a blacksmith shop and a little bar area.The late Craig D. “Cloudy” Schlosser built this old west saloon on his property and named it the Broken Saddle Saloon. Apparently he loved to entertain people there. He also loved to take his horses on rides on the trails which he cleared. He died in 2010 from injuries received from a motorcycle accident.

Historic St. Francis Borgia above Cedarburg
St. Francis Borgia Church sits on a hill at the south end of cedarburg’s downtown. This church was built in 1870. It dominates the view of the city’s marvelous Washington Ave., a 3/4 mile stretch of shops, boutiques, inns, and restaurants. This view reflects ones in many Wisconsin towns and cities where churches were a centerpiece.

Uplands from Vino Over the Valley
Vino Over the Valley is on Hwy 95 about five mikes west of Arcadia and nine miles or so northeast of Fountain City, smack-dab in the Western Uplands Geographic Province . While eating dinner, I spotted this fantastic view of a farm, crops, a ridge and a road curling up the ridge. Gotta love Wisconsin!

Stockholm Art Fair
The village of Stockholm held its 47th Art Fair on July 17, 2021, following a year off as the result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Stockholm is a tiny village located on Lake Pepin, with less than 100 residents. I believe the fair attracted some 6,000 visitors! This is one photo I took. Fun!

Harvest Home Farm
I came across Harvest Home Farm near Whitehall quite by accident. It is a spectacular place in a spectacular setting, nestled among some rolling hills, almost out of sight. It is a non-denominational, not-for-profit Christian ministry developed to strengthen families. Mike Poulos and his wife Becky run the farm. They believe “A farm setting offers a unique opportunity to step out of our fast paced culture, enjoy the fellowship of working side by side together and discover the character of God as stewards of His creation.” I met Mike while intruding on his property unannounced. He was as open and friendly as a man could be, breaking away from his labor to talk about a bunch of topics, non of which involved religious beliefs.

farm in the Uplands
You’re looking at a farm quote a distance from where I was standing. I used a telephoto lens to catch it from Norden Road, on a ridge in the Western Uplands Geographic Province of the state, near or in the town of Naples. It’s gorgeous up there!

The Salmon Runner
This is a sculpture known as “the Salmon Runner.” It is an aluminum bear created by Canadian Artist Heather Wall. It is currently on display at the corner of Barstow and Main Streets in downtown Eau Claire. It was purchased by an organization known as sculpture tour and gifted to the City of Eau Claire.

Two Rivers
Two Rivers, appropriately enough, is a city located where two rivers meet and empty in Lake Michigan, The East Twin and West Twin. It is a delightful city, and boasts of being the birthplace of the ice cream sundae. Some call it Manitowoc-Two Rivers.

A little cubicle in Wausau
This is a small cubicle in downtown Wausau, behind the building that hosts the Landmark Apartments It is next to a parking lot that is across the street from the Jefferson Inn and Jefferson Street Parking Ramp. The cubicle Faces 1st Street. Had to try my hand at photographing it and then playing with the colors.

Block house on St. Feriole Island
St. Feriole island is on the east channel of the Mississippi River. just on the edge of Prairie du Chien. It is a fascinating place to visit. This photo was taken in October, a misty, sometimes rainy day. The island hosts remnants of the first settlement, the birthplace of Prairie du Chien. This is on old blockhouse. There are many well preserved buildings, an old rail Yard with a suite of rail cars sitting idly by,. The island is ideal for walking and biking, a great education and fun for the kids. An added benefit is it is an entertaining location for watching eagles.

Decayed home - birnamwood
I once rented a small apartment on Pine View Road in Birnamwood. This old decaying home was close by. The photo almost makes it look haunted, but it was not. Just falling apart.

Old mill in white Creek
White Creek in Adams County is seen by some as a “Lost Town.” There are people living there . This is what is left of the Mill, which took advantage of a natural waterfall. Built in 1850, this mill’s achievements encouraged growth of the town. It is now on W. 14th Lane.

The old general store, Blaine
Blaine too is seen by some as a “Lost Town.” I had some funs playing with colors! This building once served as the town’s general store. It was built in 1901 and was operational by year’s end. The store sold all kinds of stuff. Living quarters were added upstairs in 1922. In the late 1920s a storage area was added for feeds, electrical supplies and some implement parts such as nuts, bolts, and machinery parts. The store once had two hand operated gasoline pumps. One kerosene pump is still there, left of the front door. Later in the timeline this general store served as a grocery store, and later would become a restaurant serving Friday fish fry and Sunday dinner.

Lift bridge across the St. Croix
This is the BNNSF Railroad lift Bridge located in Prescott. It spans the St. Croix River but is located at the point where the St. Croix empties into the Mississippi River. Minnesota is on the far side. It is a lift bridge. The mechanisms on the bridge lift the center rail section upward to allow boats passing through to squeeze under. Fascinating.
